Ballet Theater Of Lancaster Presents
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker
WITH THE DONETSK BALLET OF UKRAINE

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King was written in 1816 by German author, E.T.A. Hoffmann (1776-1822). French writer Alexandre Dumas retold the story in 1847, the source from which Russian composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) and choreographers, Lev Ivanov (1834-1901) and Marius Petipa, (1818-1910), created the The Nutcracker. The ballet was first performed in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1892.

The story centers on a nutcracker, a gift given by Dr. Drosselmeyer to his goddaughter Clara, and how this gift comes to life and transports her to a world of toy soldiers and dancing snowflakes, and the enchanted land of the sugar plum fairy.
